Nick Fjelland, a senior from Alleman, Iowa, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Baseball Player of the Week. This honor is the twenty-first NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year and is the first time a Peacock baseball player has earned the recognition this season.

Fjelland dominated opposing pitchers at the plate this week. He led Upper Iowa to a 6-0 mark in NSIC games against Bemidji State and Winona State. Fjelland hit .647 for the week accumulating 11 hits in 17 at bats. The 11 hits included 5 doubles and 2 homeruns, one of which broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning of game four versus Winona State. He had a slugging percentage of 1.294 for the week. Fjelland drove in 9 runs for the Peacocks and scored 7 runs himself as the team exploded for 43 runs in their six games (7+ runs/game). The third basemen racked up 22 total bases on the week. With the five doubles Fjelland now has 23 on the year and is now in sole possession of the UIU baseball record of doubles in a season. He now has 15 doubles in NSIC play which ties the NSIC individual season record. With four steals over the last week, Fjelland now has 15 steals in NSIC play, just two shy of the NSIC record in a season. Fjelland was also solid in the field committing just one error in 21 chances at third.

Fjelland and the Peacocks will next play in their final home game of the 2008 season as they host the Hawks of Quincy University in one nine inning game. Upper Iowa will then end their regular season in Bismarck, N.D. at the University of Mary in a four-game, NSIC series. UIU is currently 25-23 overall and 21-7 in the Northern Sun.
