Peacocks Ranked Sixth in Latest NCAA Central Region The Peacocks were 29-24 overall and had locked up second place with a 24-8 record in the Northern Sun at the time of the regional committee's call. Upper Iowa entered the NCAA Regional Rankings for the first time this season last week. Before yesterday's loss to Bemidji in the NSIC Tournament, Upper Iowa had won 13 of their last 15 games. Peacocks Split with Marauders on Final Day of Regular Season The Upper Iowa baseball team got back onto the diamond in Bismarck, N.D. for their final double header of the regular season. The Peacocks entered the day with a small shot at the NSIC Championship, but those hopes fell through when the University of Mary rallied in game one to take a commanding lead and win the contest 15-6. Upper Iowa didn't let the result spoil their day as they took game two with style winning 13-5. The Peacocks finished the NSIC regular season in second place with a 24-8 record. With two wins today, Wayne State earned the regular season NSIC title with a 24-6 record. (MORE) Peacocks Pull Away From Marauders to Sweep Doubleheader Bismarck, ND - Upper Iowa University scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning of game two to dash the University of Mary hopes of a split as the Peacocks rallied to defeat the Marauders 10-5 in Northern Sun play. The second-place Peacocks also pulled out a win in game one, 6-5. Upper Iowa kept their hopes alive for their first Northern Sun Conference Championship with the two victories. Wayne State and Bemidji State split their double header, which left the Wildcats (22-6) ahead of the Peacocks (23-7) by .019 percentage points in the NSIC title race. (MORE) Peacocks Ranked Sixth in NCAA Central Region INDIANAPOLIS, IND.: The Upper Iowa University baseball team is ranked sixth in the most recent NCAA Division II Central Regional rankings released this morning by the NCAA national committee. The rankings are through games as of Sunday, Apr. 27. The Peacocks were 25-23 overall and 21-7 in the Northern Sun at the time of the regional committee's call. Upper Iowa enters the NCAA Regional Rankings for the first time this season after posting a 6-0 record with sweeps over Bemidji State and Winona State last week. The Peacocks were ranked sixth in the region once last year late in the season. (MORE) Peacocks Win Non-Conference Affair with Hawks The Peacock baseball wrapped up their home season in style as they raced out to a 10-1 lead en route to their 10-5 victory over Quincy. The Hawks gave up fourteen hits to the Peacocks and committed four errors. Andy Seabrooke was very good on the mound for UIU as he threw 8.1 innings allowing four runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits. Seabrooke, who made his final start on the hill in Fayette, walked three, but struck out 8 Hawk batters. (MORE) Fjelland Named Northern Sun Conference Baseball Player of the Week Nick Fjelland, a senior from Alleman, Iowa, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Baseball Player of the Week. This honor is the twenty-first NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year and is the first time a Peacock baseball player has earned the recognition this season. (MORE) Peacocks Complete Series Sweep of Warriors with Sunday's Wins The Peacocks completed a series sweep of the Warriors of Winona State. After winning two games on Saturday, Upper Iowa picked up two more victories on Sunday afternoon in Fayette. UIU took game one 10-2 and scored three runs in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie and win the game 5-3. With the pair of wins, the Peacocks improve to 25-23 on the season and 21-7 in Northern Sun play. Upper Iowa now has more NSIC victories than any other team in the league. They trail first-place Wayne State by just two games as the Wildcats (20-4) split with Concordia-St. Paul today in the Metrodome. (MORE) Peacocks Sweep Warriors in NSIC Double Header The Peacocks swept the Warriors of Winona State in the first two games of four this weekend between the teams. Upper Iowa won game one 9-4 and game two 8-1. Brian Solemsaas picked up a complete game win in game one, his third straight complete game win. Solemsaas threw seven innings allowing four runs on twelve hit while striking out four. Brad Mey picked up the win in game two in relief of Zach Raff, who had to leave the game with an injury to his throwing hand. Raff suffered the injury catching a line drive and turning a double play in the first inning. Mey threw six innings and only allowed an unearned run on two hits while striking out eight. (MORE) |
