The Upper Iowa men's golf team was back in action this past weekend as they travelled to Lake City, Minnesota to compete in three, one-day tournaments hosted by Concordia-St. Paul at the Jewel Golf Club. Upper Iowa finished Sunday's play in the Jewel Invite in second after shooting a 303. The team was just three strokes behind first-place Winona State. Junior Josh Wells led the way for the Peacocks carding a 3-over par 74 (37-37) and tying for third place in the tournament. Adam Winans finished just one shot behind Wells shooting a 75 (38-37) and placing fifth overall. Craig Signorin ended his round with a tenth place finish recording a 76 (39-37). Rounding out the Peacock scoring was Matt Dahlke and Tucker Bayler, who both fired 78's. Individually, Tyler Pederson finished Sunday's round tied for 18th shooting an 82 (38-44). Nick Kuhle recorded an 86 (42-44), while junior Bryan Peck shot a 90 (41-49). Troy Northrop and Kyle Reisinger rounded out the Peacock golfers as they shot 94 and 102, respectively. On Monday, the Peacocks captured the Golden Bear Invite title while setting a new school record with a new low round total of 288 besting the previous record (291) by three strokes. Upper Iowa won the tournament by ten strokes over NSIC foe, Bemidji State. Dahlke continued his impressive spring run firing a three-under par 68, which led the field as the low round on the day. Wells finished the day with a seventh place finish recording a 72. Winans and Signorin both carded 74 stoke rounds tying them with three others for tenth place. Bayler rounded out the Peacock scoring with an 82 for Monday's round. The Peacock individuals shot very well on Monday and as a group (324) would have beaten two of the teams competing and tied another. Pederson led the individuals with a round of 76, while Peck finished with an 80. Northrop fired an 83 which bested Kuhle by two strokes as he shot an 85. Reisinger finished his round with a 98. The Peacocks finished fourth in Tuesday's third and final day of competition. Upper Iowa shot a 314 as a team, losing by five strokes to first place Minnesota State in a very tight battle for the third day's title. The top five teams were all within seven strokes of one another; scores ranged from 309 to 316. Wells led the Peacocks and the field as only one other golfer shot as low as the Racine, Wisconsin-native. Wells turned in a three-over par 74 (39-35). Winans shot a 78 (37-41) and collected an 11th place finish. Dahlke carded a 79 (39-40) to tie for 16th place, while Signorin finished play with an 83 (43-30) as he tied for 39th. Rounding out Upper Iowa's scoring Bayler with an 84 (42-42). Peck led the way for the UIU individuals with an 83 (41-42). Pederson and Kuhle both signed their cards with 87's, while Northrop wrapped up his play with an 88. Reisinger closed the Peacock day with an 89. The Upper Iowa men's golf team has just one day of competition left before regional selections are made. The Peacocks will travel to Rochester, Minnesota to compete in the Rochester Triangular next Wednesday, Apr. 23. |
