Peacocks Fifth after first day of NCAA DII Central Regional



Matt Dahlke parred 14 holes while shooting a 76 to match Adam Winans as the pair led Upper Iowa on day one of the NCAA DII Central Regional.

Findlay, Ohio--Upper Iowa opened play in NCAA Division II Central Regional today at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio. The Peacocks shot a 310 and sit in fifth place in the team standings after the first round. UIU trails the leader, Wabash, by only 12 strokes.

Matt Dahlke and Adam Winans both shot a 76 on the day to lead the team, while Josh Wells carded a 77. Tucker Bayler came into the clubhouse with an 81 after scoring a birdie on his final hole. Craig Signorin rounded out the Peacocks' scoring with an 82. Dahlke and Winans tied two other Northern Sun Conference golfers for low round by a conference member; Josh Wilhelm of Winona State and Jacob Sanders of UM, Crookston both shot four-over as well. Dahlke's 14 pars on the day was tied for the most of any golfer in the NCAA Central Regional.

The top team within each regional and the top team left in the super regional, along with the top individual not on one of the qualifying teams, will advance to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship next week, May 13-16, in Houston, Texas.

Tomorrow's second round gets underway at Red Hawk with Upper Iowa set to tee off at 8:45 a.m.
