The Peacocks took the field for their final match of the 2007 season on Sunday afternoon. Upper Iowa played host to the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside on Senior Day in Fayette. The team honored the four seniors; Sultan Karim, Ken Andersen, Steve Fellhauer, and Chris Pacheco, before the game. Upper Iowa played a heavily defensive technique that seemed to disrupt the Parkside attack plans. The Peacocks were satisfied to keep the Rangers at bay as many of the shots the visitors took sailed wide and high of the goal. Upper Iowa used their strength, namely goalie Andy Youde, to keep Parkside off the scoreboard. Parkside took 36 shots in the match but the defense, led by Jaryd White, Alex Hess, Dan Rodewald and Jasmin Arapovic, was able to deflect many of the shots before they got to the keeper. The shots that got through the defense were gobbled up by Youde, who made 11 saves on the day. Craig Signorin got loose near the end of regulation and fired a shot that was pushed just wide by the Ranger keeper. Parkside was able to put the ball into the back of the net past Youde in the 6th minute of overtime on a ten yard strike past the diving keeper. With the loss, Upper Iowa's record falls to 4-14 overall. The Peacocks will travel to St. Mary's College on Thursday, Oct. 25, for their final game of the 2007 season. Gametime is set for 3:00 p.m. |
