NSIC Release

Tyler Mumbulo (JR / Bainbridge, NY) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's (NSIC) Wrestler of the Week. This honor is the fifteenth NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year, fourth by a Peacock wrestler, and second for Mumbulo for the 2007-08 season. The 2007 All American and two-time National Qualifier has received the NSIC Wrestler of the Week award three times in his career at Upper Iowa including once last year.

Mumbulo (#3 NCAA) won the opening match of Upper Iowa's dual with #1 Minnesota State and got the crowd on their feet. The junior defeated Nick Smith (#2 NCAA) by decision 6-4. Smith scored an early takedown, but Mumbulo escaped and registered a takedown of his own. Mumbulo started down in the second period and scored the only points of the period on his second escape. Smith began the third period down, but scored on a reversal to tie the match at 4-4. The New Yorker earned the victory with his third escape and a riding time point (1:22) to win the match 6-4. Mumbulo is now 23-4 on the year.

Mumbulo and the #9 Peacock wrestling team will travel to Aberdeen, South Dakota for a pivotal Northern Sun Conference match up. Upper Iowa will face the Wolves of Northern State in dual action at 7 p.m. on Friday night, Feb. 8. The team will then travel to St. Cloud, Minnesota for a non-conference dual with the #16 Huskies of St. Cloud State at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 10.
