NSIC Wrestler of the Week Release

Travis Eggers (SO/Monona, IA) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's (NSIC) Wrestler of the Week. This honor is the eleventh NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year and first by a Peacock wrestler for the 2007-08 season.

Eggers (#5 NCAA) had one of the most impressive runs of the open in the 157 pound gold bracket. Eggers began his day with two quick victories by fall to set up a great match with Jason Rhoten (#2 NCAA) of MSU Mankato. All eyes in the building turned to watch this match up. The match was tied at 4-4 after the first seven minutes of regulation, but Rhoten was able to score a takedown in the first sudden victory period to take the win 6-4. Eggers then went 4-0 in the consolation bracket adding his third win by fall and winning the consolation finals with a 4-1 decision over Craig Becker of UW-Parkside.

"Travis is a true competitor. He expects to win each and every match. There is probably no one in our room that outworks Travis," said Head Coach Heath Grimm.

Eggers and the #6 Peacock wrestling team will travel to the Auggie Open hosted by Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota next Saturday, Nov. 17, and to the Simpson Invitational in Indianola, Iowa on Saturday, Dec. 1. Both tournaments will begin at 9:00 a.m. and go all day.
