Mitch Norton (SO/Waverly, IA) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's (NSIC) Wrestler of the Week. This honor is the twelfth NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year and second by a Peacock wrestler for the 2007-08 season. The sophomore was the NSIC Rookie of the Year last year and received the NSIC Wrestler of the Week award once. Norton (#8 NCAA) wrestled at 165 pounds and claimed one of the four Peacock championships at the Brute-Adidas Auggie Open hosted by Augsburg College. Norton won his first match by fall over a former junior college national qualifier (3:45) and his quarterfinal match by decision 4-2. The Waverly-native pinned Jake Grygelko of Augsburg in the semis (3:42) and then won the championship match by decision 6-4 over Matt Curtis of Augsburg. "Mitch performed very well and wrestled with great intensity in all three phases; neutral, bottom, and especially top," said Head Coach Heath Grimm. Norton and the #6 Peacock wrestling team will travel to the Simpson Invitational in Indianola, Iowa on Saturday, Dec. 1. The tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. and go all day. |
