Peacocks Announce Addition of Junior College Transfer
Ten Peacocks Earn Northern Sun All-Academic Team Honors To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. The student-athlete must have also reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at the institution represented with one full year completed at their institution. (MORE)
Beavers End Peacocks' Season with Loss The Peacocks women's basketball team traveled to Bemidji, Minnesota for the team's final game of their season on Saturday night. Upper Iowa played well in the first half shooting 46% on their way to a 25-21 lead at the break. The Beaver offense picked up over the final twenty minutes as the home team canned five three-pointers as they rallied to outscore the Peacocks by thirteen in the second half. In the end, Bemidji State ended Upper Iowa's season by the score of 60-51. The Peacocks finished the season with a 7-23 record overall and a 3-15 record in the Northern Sun. (MORE) Peacocks Earn NSIC Victory at UM, Crookston The Upper Iowa women's basketball team traveled to Crookston, Minnesota for the first game of the team's final road weekend this season. The Peacocks took the floor looking to move out of a tie at the bottom of the conference with the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston. The visitors found themselves ahead by eight at halftime thanks to Paige DeVine, Chelsea Petersen, and Ashley Martin who combined for 28 points in the first twenty minutes. The Peacocks secured the victory in the second half led by Britney Iredale's 18 points. Upper Iowa claimed the win by a 74-57 score and picked up their third NSIC victory of the year. (MORE) Dragons Burn Peacocks from Three Point Line The Peacock women's basketball team welcomed the Dragons of MSU Moorhead for Friday night's "Think Pink" basketball game. Both teams wore "Think Pink" warm-up shirts to promote the WBCA's (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) global initiative to increase breast cancer awareness. The Dragons pulled out to a nine point halftime lead thanks to their shooting behind the arc. The two teams battled down through the opening minutes, but MSUM ran away thanks to a large, time-consuming run. The visitors maintained their lead and won the game 63-42. (MORE) "Think Pink" Comes to Dorman Gym The Upper Iowa Athletics Department, in conjunction with the Office of Student Development, will be supporting the Think Pink initiative on Friday, Feb. 15, at the Peacock Basketball double header with MSU Moorhead. Think Pink promotes breast cancer awareness and was established by the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association). The UIU women will face the Dragons at 6:00 p.m., while the men from both teams will take the floor at 8:00 p.m. (MORE) Upper Iowa Falls to Wayne State on the Road The women's basketball team at Upper Iowa traveled to Wayne State on Saturday evening for their latest NSIC contest. The Peacocks played well on the defensive end of the floor in the first half holding the Wildcats to just 22 points, but UIU could not get their own offense going as they went to halftime trailing 22-20. Wayne State found some answers for their offense at halftime and outscored the Peacocks 35-24 in the second half to come away with a 57-44 win. With the win, Wayne State moves to 17-7 on the year and 10-5 in the NSIC, while Upper Iowa falls to 6-20 on the year and 2-12 in the NSIC. (MORE) Peacocks Fall to Mustangs on the Road The Upper Iowa women's basketball team traveled to Marshall, Minnesota to face the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. The two Northern Sun teams matched up for their final regular season meeting of the season on Friday evening. After Upper Iowa took a four-point lead into halftime, the home team rallied back and by as many as nine in the second half before claiming a 57-52 victory. The loss dropped the Peacocks record to 6-19 overall and 2-11 in NSIC play. (MORE) Upper Iowa Athletics Department Honors 169 Student-Athletes The Athletics Department of Upper Iowa University recognized 169 student-athletes who earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll between games of the Winona State-Upper Iowa basketball doubleheader Saturday night. The honored group includes student-athletes, team managers, student assistant coaches, and student athletic trainers. This year's 169 honorees are a new record for total student-athletes honored at Upper Iowa. (MORE) |
