GRAND FORKS, N.D.--For the second consecutive day Nebraska-Omaha shot a 15-over-par 303 and will take a 10-shot lead into tomorrow's third and final round at the 2008 NCAA Division II Women's Golf North Region Championship at King's Walk Golf Course. Minnesota State remains in second place after shooting an 18-over-par 306. The Mavericks are 10 strokes behind UNO and hold a 10-shot cushion over third-place Upper Iowa. Four players tied for the lowest individual score of the round. Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt, North Dakota's Kelli Dahle, Augustana's Courtney Belanger and Minnesota State's Kayla Wheeler each carded a one-over-par 73. Schmidt shot even par on the front and one over on the back including three bogeys and two birdies. She is currently tied for 5th place at +7 for the tournament. Rochelle Schmidt shot a 78 and day two with a birdie, while Jill Preeshl followed Schmidt with a 78 of her own. Preeshl tallied 8 bogies, but had an eagle on the par-five ninth to counter the extra strokes. Laura Taylor knocked in two birdies today but a double and triple bogey on a pair of par threes pushed her score to 81 for the day. Lindsey Holien closed out the Peacocks' scoring with an 88, four strokes better than the first round's total. The top two teams and the top two individuals not with those teams advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship May 13-16 in Houston, Texas. Tomorrow's third and final round gets underway at King's Walk with the first tee time at 8 a.m. |
