Schmidt Fires 76 in First Round of NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship
Peacocks Rally for Team Berth to Nationals Falls One Stroke Short GRAND FORKS, N.D.--Led by individual champion Sara Wolfe, Nebraska-Omaha cruised to a 27-stroke victory at the 2008 NCAA Division II Women's Golf North Region Championship today at King's Walk Golf Course and earned a national championship berth in the process. Augustana, which had entered today's final round in last place, shot a 308 to claim second place by one stroke over Minnesota State and Upper Iowa, earning the other team berth for the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship Truman State's Kaytie Spangler (75-76-73--224) and Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt (78-73-73--224), who each tied for second place, captured the two individual berths for nationals. Spangler and Schmidt finished the three-day tournament at eight over par. (MORE) Peacocks Remain in Third after Day Two at NCAA North Regional GRAND FORKS, N.D.--For the second consecutive day Nebraska-Omaha shot a 15-over-par 303 and will take a 10-shot lead into tomorrow's third and final round at the 2008 NCAA Division II Women's Golf North Region Championship at King's Walk Golf Course. Minnesota State remains in second place after shooting an 18-over-par 306. The Mavericks are 10 strokes behind UNO and hold a 10-shot cushion over third-place Upper Iowa. (MORE) Upper Iowa Third after first day of NCAA DII North Regional The Peacocks are in third place after shooting a 316 on day one. Rochelle Schmidt led Upper Iowa with a 77 and is tied for 7th, while her sister Rachael came in with a 78 and is tied for 10th. Freshman Jill Preeshl tied for 15th and carded a 79 and sophomore Laura Taylor turned in an 82. Lindsey Holien rounded out the Peacocks' day with a 92. (MORE) Peacock Golf Teams Ready to Open Play at Regional Tournaments The Peacock golf teams both hit the course for a practice round at their respective NCAA Regionals this afternoon. The women are competing as the #2 seed in the NCAA North Regional in Grand Forks, N.D., while the men are playing as the #6 seed in the NCAA Central Regional in Findlay, Ohio. Both teams are playing on links-style courses. The women at King's Walk Golf Course and the men at Red Hawk Run Golf Course. (MORE) Two Peacocks Earn NSIC Postseason Honors; Three Named All-Conference St. Paul, Minn. - The 2007-08 NSIC Women's Golf All-Conference team has been announced as voted on by the league coaches. Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt was named NSIC Golfer of the Year while Concordia-St. Paul's Molly Noser was named NSIC Newcomer of the Year. Chad Markuson was voted on by his peers as NSIC Women's Golf Coach of the Year after leading the Peacocks to a second straight NSIC Championship. (MORE) Peacock Golf Teams Invited to Compete in 2008 NCAA Regionals April 28, 2008... will be remembered as a banner day in the brief, NCAA Division II history of men's and women's golf at Upper Iowa University. The two teams have been invited to compete in their respective NCAA Regionals; the men will head to Findlay, Ohio to compete in the Central Regional, while the women will travel to Grand Forks, North Dakota to play at the North Regional. (MORE) Upper Iowa Wins North Region Invite The Peacock women's golf team capped off the North Region Invite this past Sunday as they extended their day one lead to 18 strokes en route to capturing the team title over second-place and the number-one ranked team in the region, Nebraska-Omaha at Emerald Hills Golf Club in Okoboji, Iowa. Rachael Schmidt brought home medalist honors after firing a 155 (77-78) for the tournament, finishing six strokes in front of second-place finisher and twin-sister, Rochelle who shot a 161 (82-79) for the tournament.
