Three Peacocks Earn All-Conference Honors
Upper Iowa Finishes Third at NSIC Tournament
Upper Iowa Puts Themselves in Position for Championship Run Tomorrow The Peacock women's tennis team completed the first two rounds of the singles tournament and the first round of the doubles tournament at the Baseline Center in Minneapolis, Minn. Upper Iowa's three doubles teams have all reached the semifinals and will all play tomorrow. Number one through number five singles all won their first match of the day. Jennifer Bradfield, Kasey Huisman, and Kelsey Montgomery are all playing in the finals beginning tomorrow morning, while Mallery Cox and Erin Kelley will be playing in the third place singles match. Faith Atherton rebounded after a quarterfinal round loss. Atherton will now place for fifth place at number six singles. (MORE) Upper Iowa Takes 8-0 Record Into NSIC Tournament The Peacock women's tennis team completed a perfect Northern Sun Conference regular season with four conference victories over the weekend. Upper Iowa defeated U-Mary (9-0), Bemidji State (7-2), UM, Crookston (9-0), and Northern State (9-0). The Peacocks lost only 2 of 36 matches played over the weekend. Thanks to the 8-0 NSIC record, the tennis team has earned the NSIC Regular Season Championship. Tennis becomes the third program at Upper Iowa to be crowned an NSIC Champion. (MORE) Peacock Spring Sports Affected by Strong Storms and Cold Temperatures Softball - Today's non-conference matchup with Minnesota State here in Fayette has been cancelled due to the weather conditions. The doubleheader has been rescheduled for April 29th at 2:00pm. (MORE) Peacocks Defeat Mustangs; Gain Sole Possession of 1st Place The Upper Iowa women's tennis team met Southwest Minnesota State in Owatonna, Minnesota on Saturday for a match up of the two teams tied for first place in the Northern Sun Conference. The Peacocks swept through the doubles matches taking a 3-0 lead into singles where UIU was able to split the singles matches with SMSU to take the victory 6-3. Upper Iowa now sits atop the NSIC standing at 3-0 with wins against Winona State, MSU Moorhead, and Southwest Minnesota State. (MORE) Weekend Match Schedule Changed for Oncoming Weather in Minnesota Upper Iowa Head Tennis Coach Chad Fenwick has announced that the two matches between the Peacocks and the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State and the Wolves of Northern State scheduled for this Sunday in Marshall, Minnesota. Due to the heavy rains forecasted for Sunday, the match with Southwest Minnesota has been moved up to tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in Owatonna, Minnesota. The match with Northern State will be rescheduled at a later date. (MORE) Peacocks Fall Short Against Division I Opponents The Upper Iowa women's tennis team fell short in their contests on Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. Upper Iowa lost 7-0 to the UW- Milwaukee Panthers on Saturday. The team then lost on Sunday, 7-0, to Western Illinois Leathernecks. Both matches against the Division I opponents took place in Macomb, Illinois. (MORE) Montgomery Named NSIC Women's Tennis Player of the Week Kelsey Montgomery (So./Stewartville, Minn.) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's (NSIC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week. This honor is the eighteenth NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year and second by a Peacock tennis player. (MORE) |
